Impact

Transportation of NG as LNG is the most widely used the method to transport gas for large-scale and considerable distance.  The existing method of storage and transport require huge energy input for cooling, regasification, and have many safety concern whereas solidified natural gas technology introduces nonexplosive, environment-friendly storage and transport in moderate temperature condition.

Innovation.

Business Idea is to develop solidified natural gas technology in different stages for NG Storage and Transportation. Gas hydrates are solid ice like crystals, considered problematic in petroleum oil and gas pipeline industry. However, knowledge we gained can be used to form gas hydrate for eco friendly gas transportation and storage. Gas hydrates are formed at low temperature and high pressure in presence of water and formation is accelerated using certain hydrate promoters. 

Feasibility

Key innovation would be the development of technology for storage and transport based on existing knowledge available in petroleum/chemical engineering. The critical advancement in solidified Natural Gas technology is currently concentrated in Korea and Japan and most of the gas hydrate based research workin Denmark is done at DTU CERE  Hence, we do not see any competition from local market and entry as the first mover in this space could be advantageous.   

Scalable 

The principal market would be key players in energy storage, shipping, and LNG gasification/regasification industry as natural gas contribute to 24% of global energy demand and is projected to grow at a rate of about 2% until 2040. Adaptation of such technology would be additional advantage in meeting CO2 emission goals.
