"The “Automation Challenge” a Robotdalen project in Sweden

The goal with the Automation Challenge project is to increase the competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) in the Swedish manufacturing industry. The project will help companies overcome the robotautomation threshold by providing practical help by automation experts which will motivate the SME:s to automate part of their production. The program starts with a full day introduction seminar together with automation and robot experts. After the seminar, companies can apply for a technical an economical pre- analysis of their own manufacturing process. The work is done by automation experts and automation students who will visit the production site during a two week period. The result is a complete report which will be the foundation for a automation investment decision. This is a successful concept, Robotdalen has performed over 250 pre-studies which has resulted in automation investments in SME companies for more than a quarter billion Swedish crowns. Our proposal is that a program like the Automation Challenge is introduced in all the Nordic countries.
