Polisensio - How clean is the air we breathe?

Problem & Solution:
Unfortunately, according to WHO the issue of Air pollution affects 91%-92% of the world population, while 4.2 million people die every year prematurely due to exposure to outdoor emissions. Our cities fail to understand the issue due to lack of data, "invisibility" of the problem, while the current solutions designed decades ago have shortcoming and cannot keep up with the fast developments in the urban landscape.
Product & Solution:
The end product that Polisensio is delivering is DATA, granular data on outdoor air pollution, environmental intelligence via Polisensio’s own platform or API. The solution is hardware + software. The hardware part of it is a device embedded with environmental sensors which comes installed on vehicles that move in the city, a Network of Moving Sensors (NMS). On the software side, thousands of data points generated weekly are registered in Polisensio’s servers, where it is analyzed, correlated & aggregated with data from other sources. By making use of AI and data modeling, a complex analysis displayed on Polisensio's platform in near real time as air pollution heat-maps and graphs complemented by the forecasts, simulations, targeted recommendations and historical data crossings. Or the data can be integrated via API.
The USP & novelty,
lies in its end to end approach, an interplay of mobile hardware (Plug&Play devices=NMS) and AI powered software. Not only it’s a 24/7, near real-time decision support and quick response system to air pollution hot-spots/hazards, the SOLUTION being mobile offers a large coverage, constant flow of location-based datasets but also detailed analytics.
Value: In a B2G, B2B2G or B2B2C scenario, the data can serve as an additional layer to drive strategic decisions, margins, budget savings, API integration for smart home/office appliances, boost health, productivity, awareness, collective mindset.
Benefits & impact :
Awareness & consciousness among the ordinary people in relation to the urban air pollution matter in general then about the dangers it represents for health. That will empower them to demand more data on the issue from the designated authorities or other trusted sources.
For the municipalities, the value is in the data its visual representations, analytics & recommendations on how to tackle the pollution hotspots. Based on it its decision-makers can take data-driven decisions in real time for short- or long-term impact. It can also lead to savings in the local healthcare budget, less people calling in a sickday due to related diseases that can appear, taxes are paid if people are healthy and work.
In terms of cultural value, the solution developed as a brand can also transfer its positive image over the entire city branding nationally and internationally. In the same time, citizens can transform the habit of checking/demanding air quality related data in a legacy of civic sense, a trademark of being from Denmark
From the get-go Polisensio covers SDG nr 3 of Health and Wellbeing for which it has been recognized by Citpreneurs Initiative in Seoul (check link and page 106 "IntelFlows" is the old name of the company) which is directly supported by UNESCAP. Air pollution is the new tabbacco and Polisensio brings actionable data, awareness for people to take action, striving to influence the cities of tomorrow with healthy citizens.
Recognized by the same initiative where Polisensio (back then IntelFlows) pitched in front of an international jury are also SDGs nr 11 & 13. Polisensio covers these since its solution operates most of the time in the "smart city" framework striving to improve the urban landscape, shaping roads/buildings/traffic. This indirectly leads to Climate action, when 3rd/4th party stakeholders involved with us take decisions to cut down fossil fuels.
Reminder, the end product sold is the DATA accessed on Polisensio’s platform or API integration, and at no point the client/partner owns the hardware part of the solution.
Subscription as a service (SaaS) starting with 150 EUR/device/month (the client receives access to the data generated by the nr of devices it is paying for)
With the SaaS model the projections are optimistic, considering the growth of the entire smart city sector and AQM segment. Based on previous pilot tests, it resulted that the average nr of devices to be put out there in a small-medium European city is 30-40. By the end of 2019 the milestone is to have onboarded 3 – 5 paying customers (municipalities and businesses). A realistic scenario would be 3 clients and 90 devices in total, generating 162.000 EUR gross income in the months of Q4 2019.
Other models will be developed/investigated, mostly around data as a service and API integrations.
